Our Vision and Name

The vision of YoooWe is to make a positive social, environmental and economic difference in the surf, ski and boardsports community.

We strongly believe in the three core benefits of the community. So much that we made them part of our name. You were probably wondering why we have three o’s in our name, but they each represent a core value of our community:

Social: we want to create a community that makes it possible for us to connect with each other through our mutual passion for water and mountain sports. This is across social groups where we also get a chance of better understanding of each other as we in these communities are all equal. We get the possibility of sharing local tips and insights.

Environmental: because we reduce the impact from travelling with gear and the gear we have are being used more often. This also pushes towards more durable gear whereby less waste.

Economic: because we earn some money on our gear and micro entrepreneurs are empowered around the world as they now have an easy channel to provide awesome gear and experiences through.

The rest of the name? “Y” is for “you” and “We” is for you and us working together to make it all happen.

The Story

A year ago one of the founders, Mads, went on a trip to Israel. He went without his surf gear, as it was simply too difficult and expensive to bring. A quick search online before the trip for local surf gear gave little results. One day in Israel, he was at the beach; the waves were perfect and local surfers were out shredding waves. Intrigued by the waves, he found himself running around the beach asking locals where to go. Involuntarily, he had to give up.

A month later, Mads was standing in his room looking at all the gear he had lying around: two surfboards, a kiteboard, two kites, one snowboard, and two longboards. This made him think: he couldn’t possibly be the only one having extra gear lying around – and that those surfers in Israel must have had extra gear too.

This experience led Mads to wonder if it was possible to create a couchsurfing alike platform where surfers, skiers, and boarders could share gear and get local experiences.

Today a dedicated team of people around the world are working hard to make this dream come true. Driven by the desire to make a positive impact in the world we are living in, touching the lives of the all the great people we have in our community.
